But, for now....the remnants of summer will remain. My days are long, my evenings are short, my weekends are packed. There's no time to welcome a new season on to my front door step, in my hallways or on my mantel. Let's just say I'm extending the season. I can't seem to extend my days beyond 24 hours so perhaps it's my subconscious trying to rebel. I'm not really sure. All I know is that the days may be cooler here in my little suburban hamlet and the local swimming pool may have chained it's doors but in Judiland it's July. Uncle Sam is still sitting on my porch ledge waving his flag. Yes, he's being stubborn...he won't retreat to make room for Mr. Scarecrow.
Decorating for the seasons is my thing. So, naturally, when this time of the year comes--it's time to rid the indoors and the outdoors of it's patriotic dressings and dig out the harvest hued trimmings. It's just what I do. But, the big question is--when will I do it? And, it makes me wonder--where did I find the time to do it last year or the year before? Given my chosen line of work....this time of the year is always overwhelming and hectic. And, in my regular life--no matter what time of the year--I'm always over committed and over scheduled and basically in charge of keeping the world turning. Add that to a few new things like looking at colleges for Toni, my dear Uncle needing weekend care and things at the office changing significantly and really wanting to get rid of these next 20 pounds---it makes my head spin.
The pumpkins and the scarecrows will come out of hiding and find their way to my porch....but not today. And, probably not next week or the week after. This girl is hanging on to the hope that summer is not over....

When one holiday was over, the next day I was out there taking everything down, and putting the decorations up for the next holiday.
Used to drive Dan crazy. He used to say "Geeze, when I left for work it was Christmas time, and I come home 8 hrs. later and its Valentine's Day.
Can't it not be a holiday for one day?"
Weird thing is, now I never decorate for anything. Just don't get into it anymore.
Fall decor isn't happening here either. My scarecrows and pumpkins are under the bed where they'll probably stay until at least next fall. Christmas isn't going to happen either, and that's ok. Sometimes you just have to do what you can and let the rest go. Give yourself a break. You've earned it!
Thanks so much for your sweet comments! I am flattered and honored by your suggestions. Wow!
Judi,
I am making your hot sausage for a co-workers birthday tomorrow. Where do I get the fried peppers and onions? Are they in the same isle as the other stuff.
I found everything else.
Also do you brown the sausage or anything? Or do you just throw it all in together?
If we are eating at 2 what time do you suggest
putting it on?
Enough questions for you?
Figured I'd try a "real Italian's" recipe!
As I've said before, us Irish girls can't cook or clean!
One more thing, do I drain or rinse these fried pepper things. Or just throw them in juice and all?
THANKS!!!!
Well, Judi, will it make you feel any better that one year (I think it was last year), I changed out the Easter Bunny decorations that were still all over the house for Halloween decorations!
Yep, I still had our Easter decorations up in October! Well, what can I say...I didn't decorate for summer that year, and our granddaughter Josie loved to play with all of the Easter Bunnies, so I just left them up until it was time to decorate for Halloween.
LOL
OMG, Buckeyesue,
I had Easter dinner this year so I felt like I had to put something out. So I put my easter runner on my table. And I have these 4 cute little bunny candle holders from Williams and Sonoma with matching bunny napkin rings. I swear, they are STILL in my dining room. I took them off the table a few weeks ago. Put them in a box on a side table where they still sit.
I somehow don't feel so bad now.
Oh Judi, there's always tomorrow!!
Blessings,
Sher
