Is it possible to NOT LOSE WEIGHT with a Lapband?
Well.....that's a loaded question.
One I don't feel completely qualified to answer.
Because, for me......it worked.
Thank God.
But, I know it's not fool proof.
And, I know it's not a magic bullet.
What I don't know is how to answer that question.
Truth be told--I do not want to discourage anyone from taking advantage of a tool that saved me from a life of dieting and weight gain and obesity and all the things that went with it.
How would you answer that question?

It is very possible to NOT LOSE WEIGHT with the lapband. I have seen a few people on news programs over the years that have had the lapband, but would drink MELTED CHOCOLATE and drink with food to help wash it down.
So yes you can NOT LOSE WEIGHT, but the way I look at it, those people should never have been allowed to have it in the first place as they were not prepaired to even make small changes to their lives.
Judi (and all of Judiland),
Thank you for posting this question that I asked you to your blog and thank you to anyone can share. And thank you for your emails and help off line from your blog. **I have been shy in posting this here myself**. All of the blogs I connnected to thru Judi have been helpful to me since I am going through this. The message group online is not as encouraging as blogs for me and I am not getting support at home and with friends. Before I spend the $$ (self pay), I need to be sure but I get mixed messages.
I have lots over 100 pounds to lose. I am 36 years old and been fighting the "battle of the bulge" for as long as I can remember. Now my health and my lifestyle are at steak (no energy, withdrawling from social and personal situations, holding back career). I have NEVER BEEN ABLE TO LOOSE THE WEIGHT! Will a Lapband be for me?
Thank you again for any help before I take the final step to getting the loan to do this.

Judi,
Just as the acorn existed within the oak, even when the oak was a seedling; and as the oak existed within the earth, even before there were trees; and as the earth existed within the galaxy, even before there were planets... there has never been a time, dear sweet Judi, when you did not exist within me... during which we dreamed all else into being.
Does this help?
Far out.
Love you.
Well done.
Happy everything,
The Universe
yup there are those who lose nothing and those who lose a little bit of weight. I have been successful with this thing (139 pounds and counting to 140) but it was with hard work and many moments of panic with support from the band.
I don't and the medical community does not know the reasons why the band fails some people. There are lots of things I suspect but do not know for sure until someone does their homework and figures it out.
I do know that you have to be willing to change what you do and how you live along with staying in contact with the surgeon who gives you your fills. YOU have to figure out when fills are necessary; when food changes are necessary; When exercise needs to be ramped up. Are you committed? If so this band will make those changes more possible but if you are not committed there are plenty of ways to sabatage things-like not following the band rules (drinking while eating or drinking calories). Not getting fills when needed or getting unfilled for vacations or you no longer get to eat the the amount of food or foods you love....the list can go on and on.
Good luck in your decision and your progress!!
xxxooo
Simply, yes.
yeah, I've seen it, too. It's sad and even now, over 100 lbs down I know my head does 50% of the work. As I have said before (broken record much) I don't have ideal restriction, even at 8.2 ccs I can eat a full meal. But for the most part I chose not to. The thing is it's easier with the band to make that choice, I do get satisfied only smaller amounts about 80% of the time and I don't get that crazy physical hunger I used to get. But, I could eat around the band and get creative- and I don't because with the band I feel like someone or thing is on my side, looking out for me and I am so grateful for the help.
